Becoming a vegan is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.. but by golly is it hard! I grew up on a cattle station… my entire family is in the cattle industry and to go from eating animal products a minimum of 3 times a day to eating non at all is pretty tough. Over time (and with a lot of research) I managed to compile this list as kind of a cheat sheet to use whenever I was feeling like some sort of animal based snack….
If you’re feeling like this : try having some of this….
Milky / Creamy : coconut cream, coconut milk, soy milk, nut milk, oat milk, avocado, hummus ❤ , fresh white bread and your favourite nutty butter, coconut yoghurt, coconut ice-cream, soy ice cream, soy sour cream
Red Meat: eggplant, beans, legumes, wholegrain bread, mushrooms, vegan beef stock (Massala is a good brand), beetroot, nuts
Chicken / Pork: Tofu, Cauliflower, Temph, potatoes, vegan chicken stock (Massala), Jackfruit ❤
Cheese: cashew nuts, macadamia nuts, soy yoghurt, olive oil, non-dairy milk
In addition to the things on the above lists there are also the standard vegan alternatives (fake meat, fake cheese etc…) available at the grocery store but I try to stay away from most of these because I find that they are usually pretty oily and full of stuff that I can’t name. I’m not a nutritionist and I have no idea if these things are healthy or not but I personally just prefer to stick to fresh fruit and veg whenever I can 🙂
